Lync - These Are Not Fall Colors

Sorry about the slightly smaller than usual album cover, I couldn't find any bigger. But hey, look on the bright side of things; considering how obscure it is, you could drastically increase your indie cred with this album

Hey guys, what's up? Finally updating the blog after a little hiatus; I think I'll keep this whole "only post a few times a month"-thing up for a while, I just don't have the will nor time to post like 4 or 5 times a week.
Yeah, anyways, here's the music part of the post:

Okay, today I'm posting what has quickly become one of my favorite albums, very recently. I actually found this by accident while lazily browsing through my grossly oversized (at least for me) music collection (I'll be reorganizing and removing some stuff soon, though).
It was tagged as "indie rock" and the cover looked appealing somehow, so I just thought "All right, I'll check it out".
And I'm fucking glad I did. This album is awesome with a capital everything.
Maybe it's just because I absolutely adore all things old school emo and have a perversion for anything that's really noisy, lo-fi, 90's indie/garage rock, but I think this album is fucking amazing.
I can't explain what makes it so great, really. But I guess it something about those noise/lo-fi guitars mixed with the emo chords/mood/whatever.
Every song (yes, every song) is awesome and by the end you just wish it'd lasted twice as long.

Maybe you won't like it as much as I do, but I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy at least some degree as long as you have an open mind. Maybe it'll be another favorite album of yours as well; either way, I hope you like it and even if you don't, I still will.

Btw, my last post was the 100th post on this blog. Yay for me!

Norma - Book Of Norma

Yes, yes, yes. Late Saturday update comin' at ya (at least late where I am). This album is an album I actually found at my local library some while ago (very big library by the way, and they have a nice habit of purchasing obscure, yet very good albums which you can then loan for free. Awesome right?).
Norma is a post-punk/shoegaze/indie rock/whatever band straight out of the Argentina underground. How exactly the people at the library got a hold of this I'm not sure, but that's not really the important thing here, the important thing is that this album is pretty fucking good.
I only picked up this album because I thought the cover looked cool and the name sounded interesting. But then it turned out to be really good too.
The first song is a little weird and noisy, so the first time I listened to it, I thought: "What the hell is this shit? Should've never borrowed it" or something along those lines.
But then the second song wowed me (probably the best on the album, or at least second best).
Their sound is really cool, like a fresh take on the classic post-punk/shoegaze sound of the late 80's. It's sounds retro, but still modern and up-to-date.
Yeah, it's an awesome album and I think you should check it out ASAP.

Cap'n Jazz - Analphabetapolothology

Well hello everybody! I'm back again with another awesome album. Maybe you've heard (of) them, maybe you haven't, but one thing's for sure: Cap'n Jazz was an incredibly awesome and influential band and this album is a compilation of all the songs they ever (officially, at least) recorded. Cap'n Jazz has the sound of everything that was good with the 90's emo bands and they accomplished far more in about six years than most bands do during their entire career. The opener 'Little League' is a perfect example of what good emo sounded like in the 90's.
Also, their cover of A-ha's song 'Take On Me' is fucking brilliant and way better than the original (not that the original was any good).
Even if you're an fan of emo or not, this is required listening for anyone with an interest in good music. Listen to this shit!

Astronautalis - Pomegranate

Hey, here's the Astronautalis album i mentioned in my last post. So, I saw this guy last night as he was opening for Tegan and Sara, and he was AMAZING. Alright? Just brilliant. This dude knows how to put on a show, to say the least. Now, he may not be as great in the studio as he is live, but this is still fucking awesome. If you're wondering what kind of music this fine gentleman makes, then I will quote Stewart Mason of Allmusic.com: "If Beck were a decade or so younger and had grown up more heavily immersed in hip-hop". Yes, he sounds like Beck + hip-hop. So basically it's hip-hop with indie rock/folk beats. And it's awesome. Oh, and he's actually both a great rapper and singer. So you should definetely download this, and if you like it, consider buying it like I did or going to one of his gigs (he'll be touring with Tegan and Sara for a while).
He's a cool dude and he makes great music, support the artists!
By the way, the cover art is my own photo, so the autograph isn't on the original cover art.

Brand New - The Holiday EP

Hey. I'm pretty tired today and I haven't really found anything "spectacular" to post so I'm just gonna post this awesome EP by Brand New (one of my favorite bands). If you haven't heard of them, they're a brilliant indie rock/post-emo band who used to play some variation indie rock/pop-punk, but they've matured now (the pop-punk was still the greatest pop-punk I've ever heard). There is in fact one demo of a pop-punk song from their first album on this EP, "Logan To Government Center". Now, in my opinion pop-punk is pretty much a horrible genre, but these guys just make it sound so good. I love that song (and the rest of the EP too). What's really cool with this EP is that the album versions of the songs are much worse than the ones on the EP (not that the album versions are bad). So, even if it might not sound very appealing, I think you should check it out anyway. Brand New seem to make anything you would normally regard as bad sound great and they are at the top of their league (I don't think they've ever produced any explicitly bad material, really).

Mineral - EndSerenading

Hello. Here's an awesome album for ya by awesome emo/indie rock (I think that the correct term is "post-emo", though) Mineral. They sound pretty much like the other bands in their genre, like Sunny Day Real Estate and Cap'n Jazz. This album is pretty much your typical emotional, kind of twinkly, indie rocky post-emo with harmonized guitars, great stuff. Similar to the By Surprise/Hightide Hotel split i posted a while back, check that one out too. But really this is just some more fantastic stuff for you to listen to.

ATTN: The download link was pointing to the Karen O and the Kids album earlier, but I've fixed that now so you can download this awesome album.

Snowing - Fuck Your Emotional Bullshit

All righty, here's a new album for today. Snowing is an up-and-coming (and very awesome) emo/indie rock band (with hints of post-hardcore and math rock). They've recently released an EP for FREE! It's a great six song EP and it's just you know, awesome. Reminds me of bands like Mineral, Hightide Hotel (I posted a split of theirs earlier, here). I don't know what more to say than that it's an incredible release and you should definitely check it out. Now, I don't want to rant (again), but please don't confuse real emo (like this) with shitty "emo" shit like Death Cab For Cutie, Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Romance. So just check it out, if you're an indie rock/pop fan and have not listened to real emo like this before, you're probably going to love it.

Dananananaykroyd - Hey Everyone!

You feel like dancing? No? Well, you're going to very soon. This album is just awesome, and it makes you want to dance, but at the same time you want to sit down and just enjoy the music. Dananananaykroyd (yeah, I know) plays a genre called "fight pop". It may sound ridiculous, but once you start listening to it, it will suddenly make a lot more sense. If I were to define it I would say it's an perfect blend of really upbeat indie pop and (post-)hardcore. I guess it sounds kind of math poppy at times too, but mainly it sounds more indie pop influenced. So, yeah. Just fucking download it. You won't regret it, and after all we only live once, right?
DON'T FORGET TO CHECK OUT THE ALBUM I POSTED EARLIER, GODDAMMIT!

Aloha - Sugar

Hey, back with the second album, I thought I'd try to post one (maybe even two albums) a day as a sort of routine. This time it's "Sugar" by Aloha, a great (actually I've only heard this one album, maybe the other ones suck?) "indie" rock/pop band. Anyway, all the songs are really catchy and well-written, so it's basically just a great album. Not much more to say. If you're fan of stuff like This Town Needs Guns, Joan Of Arc, Owen, etc. (they actually sound a bit like a mix of these guys) you should probably give it a listen.
