Hey guys, what's up? Finally updating the blog after a little hiatus; I think I'll keep this whole "only post a few times a month"-thing up for a while, I just don't have the will nor time to post like 4 or 5 times a week.

Yeah, anyways, here's the music part of the post:

Okay, today I'm posting what has quickly become one of my favorite albums, very recently. I actually found this by accident while lazily browsing through my grossly oversized (at least for me) music collection (I'll be reorganizing and removing some stuff soon, though).

It was tagged as "indie rock" and the cover looked appealing somehow, so I just thought "All right, I'll check it out".

And I'm fucking glad I did. This album is awesome with a capital everything.

Maybe it's just because I absolutely adore all things old school emo and have a perversion for anything that's really noisy, lo-fi, 90's indie/garage rock, but I think this album is fucking amazing.

I can't explain what makes it so great, really. But I guess it something about those noise/lo-fi guitars mixed with the emo chords/mood/whatever.

Every song (yes, every song) is awesome and by the end you just wish it'd lasted twice as long.

Maybe you won't like it as much as I do, but I'm pretty sure you'll enjoy at least some degree as long as you have an open mind. Maybe it'll be another favorite album of yours as well; either way, I hope you like it and even if you don't, I still will.

Drive Like Jehu - Yank Crime

Awwright, got some really, really awesome music for you today.
Yank Crime was Drive Like Jehu's final album and their masterpiece, as well as their major-label debut (which means it shouldn't be to hard to find in a well-sorted record store near you).
It starts off violently with mind-twisting, dissonant riffs reminescent of no wave legends Sonic Youth's brilliant guitar arrangements. It's hard to constrict this band to a single genre as they draw heavily from noise rock and post-hardcore as well as achieving the technicality and complexity normally only found in math rock.
It really shows that the no wave bands and bands inspired by those no wave bands has had a great impact on Drive Like Jehu's sound. Just listening to them reminds me of the hard, driving riffs and rhythms of Shellac, the noisy aggressiveness of Big Black or the atonal and dissonant, yet somehow melodic and catchy riffs of Sonic Youth.
I can not emphasize enough how brilliant this album is. It consists entirely of wonderful, long songs filled to the brim with wonderful dissonant, driving riffs repeating alongside brilliant drumming, incredible hard and driving bass riffs as well as the "in-your-face", shouted lyrics that sound like they were ripped straight from some Fugazi song.
This is brilliant, easily one of the best albums of the 90's.

Idiot Pilot - Strange We Should Meet Here

Hey there. So I've got a new album for ya, this time by a band called Idiot Pilot.
I don't really feel like typing out a long description, so I'll just write something short.
It's really hard to classify them as one genre, but I guess you could say that they are similar to The Sound Of Animals Fighting, basically really experimental rock, sort of neoproggy with a little post-hardcore here and there, and a little electronic influences.
Except that these guys are more post-hardcore and shoegaze mixed with electroclash/new rave.
This may sound like absolute shit, but it's actually very skillfully done, and has just the right amount of guitar, alternating between screaming/singing vocals and synths/electronic kick drums.
It's interesting for sure, so check it out - I, for one, really enjoyed this album.

Cap'n Jazz - Analphabetapolothology

Well hello everybody! I'm back again with another awesome album. Maybe you've heard (of) them, maybe you haven't, but one thing's for sure: Cap'n Jazz was an incredibly awesome and influential band and this album is a compilation of all the songs they ever (officially, at least) recorded. Cap'n Jazz has the sound of everything that was good with the 90's emo bands and they accomplished far more in about six years than most bands do during their entire career. The opener 'Little League' is a perfect example of what good emo sounded like in the 90's.
Also, their cover of A-ha's song 'Take On Me' is fucking brilliant and way better than the original (not that the original was any good).
Even if you're an fan of emo or not, this is required listening for anyone with an interest in good music. Listen to this shit!

Bare Arms - Bare Arms EP

Why hello everyone. Today I'll be posting this EP by a very obscure (hopefully this will change soon), yet very awesome band who just got back from playing with La Quiete (as well as La Dispute a while further back, two other great bands). They are a four-piece screamo outfit from Australia with quite a unique sound. The EP features that typical screamo sound; fast tempo-shifting, harmonized guitars, slow build-ups, etc. But at times you can hear what sounds like post-hardcore influences and the fact that their vocalist is female (which is pretty unusual) gives them a fresh sound. Something very notable however, is the production. Usually these underground emo/screamo bands releases are very lo-fi as most insist on recording them accordingly to the classic hardcore DIY-ethic, which for some reason seems to be equivalent to using low-grade recording gear. Bare Arms, however, had access to (according to one of the bandmates) to a recording room in a rehearsal studio along with a recording engineer (this I am not entirely sure of). So anyway, if you're a fan of emo, screamo or post-hardcore, I strongly recommend you check this out (personally I really like the fact that they have a female vocalist). Even if you haven't listened to this kind of stuff before, give it a listen. It's a really great release.

Big Black - Songs About Fucking

Besides having the most awesome album title ever, it also happens to sound awesome as fuck. Big Black is a legendary noise rock/post-hardcore band, fronted by Steve MOTHERFUCKING Albini and this is probably my favorite album of them. Imagine a mix between Sonic Youth, Black Flag and a little bit of Ministry, and you've pretty much got Big Black. This album is fucking badass and you should totally listen to it like right now. By the way, the second half of the album is way better than the first, but the first is still great.

Snowing - Fuck Your Emotional Bullshit

All righty, here's a new album for today. Snowing is an up-and-coming (and very awesome) emo/indie rock band (with hints of post-hardcore and math rock).They've recently released an EP for FREE! It's a great six song EP and it's just you know, awesome. Reminds me of bands like Mineral, Hightide Hotel (I posted a split of theirs earlier, here). I don't know what more to say than that it's an incredible release and you should definitely check it out. Now, I don't want to rant (again), but please don't confuse real emo (like this) with shitty "emo" shit like Death Cab For Cutie, Fall Out Boy or My Chemical Romance. So just check it out, if you're an indie rock/pop fan and have not listened to real emo like this before, you're probably going to love it.
